With twelfth night looming, Brits are often in a rush to take down decorations resulting in precious ornaments, keep sakes, lights and baubles being shoved into the bottom of a box til next year. However, dedicating a little extra time and imagination when stowing decorations can drastically reduce the headache and frustration of decorating next Christmas.

However these good intentions often go awry in the post Christmas fog.”
Access Self Storage suggests the following tips for packing up your decorations:
1. Take your decorations down and lay them out on the floor this way you can group them before packing them away.
2. Use clear plastic boxes so that you can see the contents. Label each one either by room or by decoration type, it will make unpacking next year much easier
3. Take the tube from the inside of a roll of wrapping paper, cut a slit in one end. Thread the plug end of your Christmas lights through the tube and then wrap the remaining cord round the length of tube. Cut a second slit at the other end of the tube and tuck in the end of the cord.
4. Use an old pair of tights to store precious baubles. Drop one into the toe and then twist tights twice before dropping in a second and so on.
5. Use old egg boxes to store smaller baubles.
6. Keep Christmas cards as these can be cut down and used as name tags on next year’s gifts
7. Wine boxes are another good thing to keep hold of. These can be used to store long candles to stop them getting scratched
8. Use old wrapping paper to pack up between layers and give your precious ornaments more padding
